Joey Gutos is a genre-bending Indie Pop artist from the heart of Tempe, Arizona. He writes music for the lovers, dreamers and explorers taking the road less traveled.
Joey began his journey as a solo artist in the summer of 2019 as his prior project Sunset Voodoo was put on an indefinite hiatus. He felt a calling to express something more uniquely personal to himself and released his debut single "Everything (That I Need)" on Arbor Day of 2020. The song pays homage to his home state of Arizona and was featured in a mini documentary of the Arizona Trail called “Adventure Lives At Home.” Upon its release, he vowed to plant a tree for every 1K streams the song receives to honor and promote the source of the song’s inspiration: Mother Earth.
Since then, Joey has been releasing singles that showcase his diversity as an artist within the Indie Pop scene. “Bad News” is bright and bouncy Indie-electronic track clever twisted by lyrics that express angst and futility in the modern world. “Givin In” features close friend and co-writer Cori Rios, whose southwest edge helps to give the song a laid-back vibe that’s good for a poolside hangover. “Where She At” is compared to Jason Mraz and Dirty Heads, showcasing Joey’s funky side and pop sensibilities. The music video was featured in the Phoenix Indie Film 2023 Fest and has been in rotation on 93.3 Alt AZ. “Sand To Snow” completed his debut EP for which he and his band hosted a packed record release show at Valley Bar on Earth Day 2024.
Joey has performed at notable Arizona venues including Marquee Theatre, Crescent Ballroom and Rebel Lounge. He and his band have also played multiple festivals including the main stage of the Ostrich Festival.
Joey’s ability to write, produce, perform and organize have made him an invaluable asset to Arizona’s music culture as he builds momentum to reach the masses.
